OMICAFARM® – OBSERVE allows forest managers to monitor the growth and health status of forests through analysis of satellite imagery. Images are automatically download and analysed with a periodicity up to 5 days. Results of this complex analysis are provided as geo-referenced maps, made available on the personal account, that show the spatial distribution of relevant parameters like the vegetation growth, the leaf water content or the risk of infestations.

Remote sensing is the best cost-effective method to monitor extended areas with limited access. Satellite imagery represents the best compromise between spatial resolution (up to 10 m), re-visit time (up to 5 days), ease of access to data (through the OMICAFARM® platform) and costs. Every week, forest manager can check the health status, the extensions, the growth level. He can compare these data with past data and analyze changes. Satellite forest monitoring helps to understand where, when and how to intervene thanks to georeferenced maps. These data are crucial to implement “zone management” strategies intervening only where necessary. Using OMICAFARM®, the forest manager can promptly identify areas affected by infestations or diseases. He can decide to intervene with precision and accuracy reducing costs and improving the environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, the same information can be analysed for the past years with the service OMICAFARM® – PLAN – FOREST. Using this service, the forest manager farmer can analyse and compare the forest growth along different seasons and evaluate changes season by seasons.
